Welcome to RailCorp Engineering

RailCorp engineering standards establish an environment which assures the integrity of the rail network and allow competent individuals to undertake engineering design, maintenance and project activities. The environment consists of standards documents that specify RailCorp’s engineering requirements in each discipline area, a system that provides for delegation of engineering authorities to competent individuals and an assurance framework.

RailCorp engineering standards also give guidance on activities to be undertaken on RailCorp’s assets. Compliance with RailCorp engineering standards is mandatory when undertaking engineering work in RailCorp environment or when supplying engineering works that will be incorporated in to RailCorp’s rail network or operating systems unless specifically noted.

Requests for new or review of existing engineering standards can be made using the 'Request for review of RailCorp Engineering standards form'.

RailCorp engineering standards are structured in the following discipline areas:

• Civil including track, structures, geotechnical and right of way
• Electrical
• Rolling stock
• Signals and control systems
• Stations and buildings
• Telecommunications

Engineering standards and related processes are managed by a discipline Chief Engineer in each engineering area.  Discipline Chief Engineers are responsible for the assignment of Engineering Authority relating to assets; development, maintenance and approval of standards documentation (including standards, manuals specifications, procedures and technical maintenance plans) to ensure that engineering infrastructure is designed, constructed, operated and maintained to achieve safety, reliability and performance targets.

This website exists to assist those people undertaking engineering activities for or on behalf of RailCorp.  RailCorp will rewrite or amend standards from time to time.  Current versions will be uploaded to this website.
